Referendum results

“Dupage Results”:http://www.dupageresults.com/ hasn’t yet started reporting anything (could this be more fun with Diebold?), but “Will County”:http://www.willcountyillinois.com/press.htm is reporting a bunch. With 25% of the precincts in District 204, it’s 2-1 in favor of the referendum so far.
Shannon’s leading Reedy by about 15% in the race for Congress in the 13th District.

Candace Parker dunked in the NCAA tournament

I love it. When she “won the dunk competition”:http://www.rklau.com/tins/archives/2004/03/30/candace_parker.php against the boys a couple years ago as a high school senior, it was only a matter of time that Naperville native Candace Parker would dunk in a college game.
She picked a heck of a time to do it: in the first round of the women’s [...]

Supporting the 204 Referendum

I’ve been remiss in talking about a local issue that is before the voters in Naperville on Tuesday. Our school district (”Indian Prairie School District 204″:http://www.ipsd.org/) has again put a bond referendum on the ballot asking whether we can build a third high school. We have two high schools currently (Waubonsie and Neuqua Valley) that [...]

Lost, local edition

You know how on Lost, random animals show up that may or may not mean something?
Woke up this morning, and six wild turkeys were in our front yard:

Reminder: we live in a suburb of 150,000 residents. Where did these turkeys come from? Why?
The boys (and the dog!) sure loved them.

Tennessee vs. Duke

Watched the Tennessee-Duke women’s basketball game on ESPN2 tonight. (Naperville native Candace Parker is a Tennessee freshman.) It’s brutal. Duke can’t miss, and Tennessee couldn’t hit the ocean from the back of a boat right now. As I write this, Duke is up -25- 27 with 4 minutes to go. Unbelievable. Tennessee was ranked #1 [...]

Markos of Daily Kos coming to Naperville

I’m excited to share the news that Markos Moulitsas (founder and owner of “DailyKos.com”:http://www.dailykos.com/ ) is coming to Naperville in a couple weeks to help us kick of 2006 and talk about what’s needed to build a strong, permanent Democratic presence in DuPage County.
Details are forthcoming — like last year, our silent auction will have [...]

Naperville Teachers Vote to Authorize Strike

Incredible: the District 203 teachers voted 92% tonight “in favor of authorizing a strike”:http://www.suntimes.com/output/news/21nape.html if a contract agreement isn’t reached by Wednesday. We live in 204, so we won’t have to contemplate explaining to Ricky why he can’t start kindergarten on Thursday.
The School District’s reaction is “here”:http://www.naperville203.org/news/article.asp?NEWS_ID=15, while the teachers’ union explains its side “here”:http://www.nuea203.org/?link=home. [...]

Smoke Free Naperville

Today’s Naperville Sun has “a story”:http://www.suburbanchicagonews.com/sunpub/naper/top/n0816smoke.htm about a local group’s efforts to pass a law prohibiting smoking in Naperville restaurants and bars. (Naperville now has the option thanks to a recent bill signed into law by Governor Blagojevich, allowing cities to impose their own smoking limits/bans.)
I think this is a great idea; living in California [...]

Naperville library to support downloadable books

This is just excellent, fantastic news:
… Details from the Daily Herald, in a Chicago suburb. The story is useful as a look at OverDrive in action on the local scene. OverDrive deserves credit for what appears to be far-more-flexible DRM than one might expect. Excerpt: By September, Naperville patrons will be able to browse among [...]
