iPod fm tuner and remote control
Yep, I “want this”:http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?productLearnMore=MA070G/A. Very cool.
And the “other Mac announcements”:http://www.engadget.com/2006/01/10/steve-jobs-keynote-live-from-macworld-2006/ (particularly the photo sharing, blog updating and video updates) are enough to convince me that our next home computer will be a Mac (sooner rather than later, our home PC is on its last legs).
Best news of all? My iPod’s not obsolete. Looks like the [...]
iPod Video
The big gift under the tree this year was a video iPod, and I’m in love. I’ve already started loading it up with some video blogs, and I’m currently experimenting with the best way to rip DVDs to video that the iPod can see. So far, the easiest option seems to be “PQ DVD”:http://www.pqdvd.com/dvd-to-ipod-video-converter.html, which [...]
New camera
In anticipation of our upcoming arrival, I brought home a new Canon S2 IS digital camera. It’s not an SLR — those are still a bit pricey for my tastes, and I likely wouldn’t take full advantage anyway… I’ve been out of the camera saddle for too long, spoiled by years of point-and-shoot.
This camera sure [...]
Bose SoundDock
As long as I’m talking about Bose toys, I should note how amazing the SoundDock is. When we moved the TV from the family room to the basement, the biggest adjustment wasn’t the lack of TV, it was the lack of music. Rather than get a stereo for the bookshelves, we instead got the Bose [...]
Need a webcam
I need to pick up a webcam, would prefer not to spend too much. Anyone have any suggestions? (I’m on a PC, so no need to recommend the iSight…)
Engadget at CES
I’ve really been enjoying Engadget’s CES coverage this week, and “this post”:http://ces.engadget.com/entry/1234000577026567/ made me laugh out loud:
bq. Of course that means that once you get an HD-DVD player and the accompanying receiver, you’ll need enough cable to wrap around the earth’s circumference just to wire a single room. Buy stock in Monster Cable.
They’re referring to [...]
Kensington Laptop Desktop
One of my favorite gifts was an inexpensive laptop accessory from Kensington, the laptop desktop. It works with either PCs or Macs, and is a different take on the docking station concept. It’s a sleeve for your laptop — you slide it in with the laptop screen up; it hides your keyboard and lets your [...]
Netflix and Wal-Mart
Steve Olechowski: “The venn diagram of Walmart customers and Netflix customers best resembles a pair of john lennon type glasses.”
Kensington Laptop Desk
Poking around Amazon.com today, and saw this laptop desk by Kensington, which looks like a must-have for my home office. It holds your laptop, lets you flip the screen up so it serves as an eye-level monitor, while letting you attach a full-sized keyboard, mouse, etc. And it also has a built-in USB hub, which [...]
Garmin 60CS on its way
I’m very excited about my newest gadget: the Garmin 60CS GPS receiver. It looks to be a phenomenal device; as I wrote a “couple months ago”:http://www.rklau.com/tins/archives/2004/08/29/starved_rock_and_geocaching.php, I am really excited about “Geocaching”:http://www.geocaching.com/. The 60CS has a dedicated Geocaching mode:

I can’t wait until it shows up.
(Happy Birthday to me… Happy Birthday to me…)
