Web presentation software
Looking for recommendations for web presentation/meeting software. It must be Mac-friendly and needs to allow for collaborative web-browsing (or at the very least allow for me to lead a web browsing session). Suggestions?
Terrible web strategy, part 2
Over the weekend, Robin was telling me she wanted to keep a wishlist online. Amazon’s wish list is nice, but it’s exclusive to Amazon products (and Amazon partners). Why not have a wish list that could span multiple sites?
To which I proclaimed, “I have the answer! Del.icio.us!” (It’s hard to pronounce those periods when you’re [...]
Terrible web strategy, part 1
Our real estate and auto insurance agent recently retired, and sold his practice to an agent whose office is quite a few miles away from us. While we don’t have to interact with our agent too often, it’s nevertheless nice to have someone in the community to deal with when the need arises.
Robin visited the [...]
AlexaDex
OK, this is goofy (and didn’t we already do this once with “Blogshares”:http://www.blogshares.com?) — courtesy of “Mike Arrington at TechCrunch”:http://www.techcrunch.com/2006/02/12/the-web-20-stock-market/, I just signed up for “AlexaDex”:http://alexadex.com/ad/index.fcgi?ref=6612, a “stock market” of websites based in part on the Alexa site rankings.

Mirra acquired by Seagate
Wow, Seagate just “acquired”:http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,122572,00.asp Mirra. I’ve written about the Mirra “here”:http://www.rklau.com/tins/archives/2005/04/14/how_mirra_saved_my_vacation.php. Great news, congrats to the Mirra team!
Skeptorati
Steve defines “skeptorati”:http://feeds.feedburner.com/lineofsite?m=429. Yeah, I know the type.
New way to meet the neighbors
This cracked me up:
The folks across the street emailed me because they discovered my iTunes collection via wireless. [Paul Boutin]
On a related tangent, I just secured my wifi network. I noticed that one of my neighbors was piggy-backed on the connection pretty much constantly — and while I didn’t mind the occasional convenient connection, I [...]
Local web designer needed
A friend has asked for a recommendation of a local web designer who’s comfortable working with small businesses, reasonably priced, etc. If that sounds like you, drop me a line and I’ll put you in touch with my friend (a Chicago business).
Spammers, how do I hate thee?
Just had my domain shut down by my webhost for about 15 minutes. I checked it out, turns out it was due to “CPU Abuse”. Translated, that means that the deluge of hits to my mt-tb.cgi and mt-comments.cgi files (the two scripts that Movable Type uses to handle trackbacks and comments) were getting hammered so [...]
Broadband tops dial-up in US
This is amazing: broadband use in the U.S. now “tops dial-up usage”:http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6741959/ in U.S. homes.
