A TiVo innovation I’d love to see
I was meeting with Ad Age editor Jonah Bloom last week, and threw out a suggestion that didn’t cause him to burst out into fits of laughter. Which tells me that either it’s not a bad idea, or he’s really polite. I prefer to think it’s the former.
I’ve been a TiVo subscriber for over six [...]
TiVo
First off, many thanks to Joshua - not sure of your last name, but you listed me as your TiVo referral and that earned me some points towards a toy from TiVo. To Joshua, my hat’s off to you.
If you haven’t experienced the joys of TiVo, let me again strongly recommend one. Their most recent [...]
TiVo Netflix RSS Reader
From Hacking Netflix:
TiVo Netflix RSS Reader
Bitrazor.com has created a Netflix RSS reader for TiVo users. Not sure how easy it is to install (I don’t have a TiVo… yet), but it looks very cool: screenshots.
Has anyone with a TiVo tried this?
I haven’t, but will definitely check it out. Seems very cool.
The Onion: TiVo Wishlist Roulette
This sounds like a great idea…
The always amusing Onion’s own AV club has an interesting new way to goof around with a TiVo: set a random keyword wishlist and automatically record to see what you capture in 24 hours, dubbed TiVo Wishlist Roulette.
They set it to “War” and let it go to town, and in [...]
TiVo Rewards
A few months ago on a lark I signed up for “TiVo Rewards”:https://www3.tivo.com/tivo-com/rewards/prizes/show.do, a referral program that lets you get credit for your friends signing up for TiVo. I posted a few times on the blog about it, and sure enough, a few of you actually listed me as your referral.
Result? Last night, I ordered [...]
Getting a TiVo?
For any of you getting a TiVo this Christmas, please consider mentioning me as your “referral source” during your service activation process… I’m part of the TiVo rewards program, which gets me some TiVo swag in return for recruiting more of you into the -cult- family.
Thanks.

A plea from the TiVo faithful
George Hotelling just wrote “a call to arms”:http://george.hotelling.net/90percent/geekery/my_beloved_tivo.php for TiVo lovers everywhere, and it’s a doozie. Well worth a look. George makes a compelling case for TiVo as _the_ platform for digital media. I think TiVo is the answer, but only time will tell…
TiVo has permalinks
“Ernie”:http://www.ernietheattorney.net/ernie_the_attorney/2004/11/tivo_now_has_pe.html and “Ernest”:http://www.corante.com/importance/archives/2004/11/08/will_the_networks_promote_tivo_permalinks.php note that TiVo now has permalinks, allowing me to link directly to a show. TiVo owners can click those permalinks through to “TiVo Central Online”:https://www3.tivo.com/tivo-com/tco/index.do, the “home base” for Internet-based programming of your TiVo recorder.
Very cool. How’s it work? Let’s say that you read Dana Stevens’ “article at Slate today”:http://www.slate.com/id/2109369/ [...]
TiVo Innovation: RSS, streaming music, and more
Lots of interesting innovation going on in the TiVo community lately. First off, TiVoBlog has a “nice interview”:http://www.tivoblog.com/index.php/archives/2004/09/14/interview-with-javahmo-creator-leon-nicholls/ with the creator of JavaHMO, Leon Nicholls. (For those that don’t recall, JavaHMO is a replacement for the desktop software that connects to your TiVo. I wrote about it “back in January”:http://www.rklau.com/tins/archives/2004/01/11/java_hmo.php.) Version 2.0 will include the [...]
TiVo can innovate
While it’s good news that the FCC has given TiVo permission to offer their TiVoToGo service it still raises serious questions about why any company should need to ask for permission to offer an innovative service? It sets a bad precedent for the entire industry. [Techdirt]
I “wrote about this a couple weeks ago”:http://www.rklau.com/tins/archives/2004/07/22/nfl_doesnt_want_me_to_use_tivo.php, when [...]
